ZHENG XIN-YOU was my university classmate. After graduating and working as a primary school teacher for several years, he resolutely quit his job to become a monk.

In 2024, we met again at a university reunion. We were all deeply moved to learn that he had become a monk, as quitting a job to pursue an ideal is truly an admirable act.

We reminisced about old times and caught up on each other's lives. When he saw my portrait paintings, he was astonished. He believed that my portraits captured the essence of a person, so he asked me to paint one for him. He wanted to see what he looked like through the eyes of an artist.

Now, I should no longer call him ZHENG XIN-YOU; I should refer to him as SHEN YANG, the monk.



鄭新佑是我的大學同學。畢業後當了幾年小學教師，毅然辭去工作出家為僧。

2024年，我們在大學聚會中再次相遇。得知他出家後，我們都很感動，辭掉工作去追求理想，真是令人敬佩的行為。

我們回憶起舊時光，聊聊彼此的生活。當他看到我的肖像畫時，他很驚訝。他認為我的肖像捕捉到了一個人的本質，所以他要我為他畫一幅。他想透過藝術家的眼睛看看自己是什麼樣子。

現在，我不該再叫他鄭新佑了，我應該稱呼他為信仰和尚。
